Coastal Signs Plus designed, fabricated, and installed the Coronado landmark sign along the city’s waterfront, creating a permanent destination feature overlooking San Diego Bay. The project was completed in coordination with the Rotary Club of Coronado, which donated the landmark sign to the city, and the Port of San Diego, bringing together custom fabrication, structural engineering, and integrated lighting for a highly visible public installation.
Custom Fabricated Aluminum Letters
The centerpiece of the installation is a series of oversized fabricated aluminum letters spelling CORONADO. Each letter measures approximately 4 feet by 1 foot, creating a substantial dimensional presence while preserving open views toward the waterfront and Coronado Bridge.
The aluminum construction and exterior finish were selected with the waterfront setting in mind, providing a durable solution for a permanent installation exposed to coastal conditions, direct sunlight, and salt air.

Engineered Concrete Foundation
CS+ incorporated the structural foundation into the overall design of the landmark. A purpose-built concrete footing provides permanent support for the fabricated letters while maintaining the clean appearance required for a prominent public space.
An integrated safety mat at the base accommodates visitors interacting with and photographing the landmark, while concealed connections and mounting hardware help preserve the streamlined appearance of the finished installation.
Integrated 2700K Up-Lighting
The landmark was designed to remain visually prominent after sunset through an integrated 2700K warm-white lighting system.
Lighting is concealed within the footing and directed upward across the fabricated letters, providing a warm, consistent wash of illumination without introducing prominent surface-mounted fixtures or exposed electrical components around the installation.
A Custom Waterfront Landmark
More than a conventional identification sign, the Coronado installation was developed as a permanent civic landmark and waterfront destination. Its scale, dimensional construction, integrated lighting, and location create a recognizable feature for residents and visitors while complementing the surrounding public space.
